BSNL to Outsource 3G Mobile Services
July 09, 2010
Following the closure of auction for 3G spectrum in India, Indian state-owned BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) plans to outsources its 3G mobile services, the Business Standard reported on July 5, adding that the company is currently stipulating in details of a franchisee agreement. BSNL is projected to invite expression of interest by the end of July, 2010, in a bid to lower costs for 3G services, according to the same source. Aside from the other state-own telecom operator MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited), BSNL had obtained 3G spectrum without auctioning process, as the Indian government wanted these two companies to compete better in the 3G arena. MTNL currently offer 3G services in Delhi and Mumbai and BSNL in the remaining circles of the country. BSNL stated that the qualified franchisee may either be an exiting mobile operator or a company winning or bidding for 3G spectrum and has ability to manage customer acquisition, marketing and sales of 3G services across India.
